The Port Tavern is a fantastic find! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the staff are lovely, and the food is outstanding. Their Shepherd's Pie is a must-try – rich, flavorful, and the perfect comfort food. Highly recommended!
I can’t say enough good things about this restaurant!! They only just opened in June and I’m blown away by the service, food quality, and wonderful atmosphere. Usually when a restaurant initially opens it takes a while to work out the kinks but we had a flawless experience. My boyfriend and I have been to plenty of high scale restaurants and this is comparable to them. We got the Sourdough,Tuna Sashimi Bombs, Salmon Gravlax, Pickerel, and Korean Shrimp along with some wine. Every dish was spectacular. Special shout out to our server Sellman (I hope I spelled that right) who was very kind and attentive.
If you are familiar with Mark McEwan and his restaurants, you know what to expect...and The Port delivers. If not familiar, you can expect perfection served up in a relaxed yet sophisticated environment. The service was wonderful. The food amazing. The location is perfect...we ate indoors but cannot wait to sit on the gorgeous patio overlooking the water. Whether celebrating a special moment, or grabbing a snack and delicious cocktail at the beautiful bar, do yourself a favour and go to The Port Tavern in Thornbury. You won’t be disappointed!
First off, what an incredible location. I love this spot and can’t wait to come back in the summer for a patio experience. Entering the Port Tavern you immediately are greeted by the spectacular vibes: cozy, luxury, funky... we were seated at a nice table with a lovely and attentive waitress. She brought us waters promptly which I always appreciate, then took our drink and food orders. While the cocktails are a bit on the pricey side wow were they ever delicious. I enjoyed the black cherry sour and my husband enjoyed the bourbonetta - both were incredibly tasty. The food was also amazing, we got 3 things to split for lunch. We ordered the Tuna sashimi bombs - the sashimi was fresh and a fair portion, the crunch of the sushi rice was perfect, my only note would be that I’d love it a little spicer with wasabi but overall, one of my favourite appetizers! We also split the steak tartare, which is a MUST order for me any time it’s on the menu and another wow-worthy appetizer! Next time I will be ordering one for myself hehe. It was a fair portion size and came with a good amount of crostinis. Finally, we split the brisket grilled cheese with fries... and oh my goodness. Firstly, they split the meal for us so we each got our own plate and half portion which was very thoughtful. The brisket was delightful and melt in your mouth, the cheese was gooey making for a heavenly sandwich. Yes a little on the expensive side, but ultimately a beautiful date spot with incredible food. I will be back! Final Note: I was also impressed by the bathrooms, everything is clean and well stocked. Thank you for a delicious and memorable meal.
Glorious cool and sunny day on the patio with prime viewing of Thornbury Harbour, we had a casual lunch at The Port. Friendly, warm and efficient service. Zoe was our server and was attentive and personable. We requested and were quickly set up with a cosy outdoor heater. We ordered the delicious Falafel Bowl and the exceptional Onion Soup. As a soup snob I can assure you the broth of the onion soup had exquisite flavour with the perfect degree of concentration...no watery flavourless stock here. I enjoyed a sublime Cafe Latte as well. The indoor space looked warm and inviting, and pleasantly quiet though there were quite a few patrons lunching there. I noticed a spacious event room at the front of the restaurant for large parties. Can’t wait to return for dinner sometime soon!
Well staffed and best patio in Thornbury, with beautiful harbour views. Update - We recently had lunch with friends inside the restaurant taking part in the local Grilled Cheese Smackdown contest and it was a superb experience. The grilled cheese was amazing- hope it stays on the summer menu. We also shared a delicious caesar with creamy grana padano dressing, superior crab cakes and grilled chicken slider buns with a gochujang glaze. The updated decor and sound proofing are much improved over prior years.
The BEST place to eat in Thornbury. Beautiful view of the harbour on a HUGE patio. Happy to see this place under strong management. Drinks were tasty, food was excellent, and the staff were very friendly. Looking forward to coming back to try the smash burger!
We had a lovely pre- Valentine’s Day dinner on a blustery winter night. The food and drink were excellent and the server was delightful. The atmosphere indoors was also lovely!
